Azad Lab publishes article about the consumption of artificial sweeteners during pregnancy and how it increases offspring’s risk for obesity
The findings build upon Dr. Azad’s previous CHILD research, which found prenatal non-nutritive sweeteners (NNS) consumption doubled a baby’s risk of being clinically overweight by age one, lead researchers to the current study. Experiments with mice and cell cultures found that maternal NNS intake during pregnancy caused elevated body weight, an accumulation of body fat, and insulin resistance in the offspring.
